The vibrating 'Ghost' glove that can train your muscles to replicate Tiger's swing

Radical glove can be applied to almost any sport
Could come preloaded with top star's movements

A new 'teaching glove' can download the movements of popular sports stars and teach you how to copy their movements.

The gloves use a combination of vibrating pads and sensors to fine-tune arms into carrying out the perfect pre-planned movements, in turn improving their game.

The engineers, led by engineer Benedict Copping from the Imperial College London, say the glove can aid 'muscle memory', as well as help improve performance in other sports skills.

The glove, currently in prototype stage, has been shortlisted for a James Dyson £10,000 innovation award

The glove could also come pre-loaded with the movements of famous tennis players built in, for instance meaning a player could literally learn to serve like Andy Murray.

As the player moves their arm, the glove will vibrate at the correct moments to change the player's behaviour.

Copping said: 'A coach can set a series of way points that the wearer has to move through and the device tells them if they are hitting them by vibrating as they move.

'For people who cannot see very well, this could allow them to practice technique and become really efficient.'

The armband has an array of sensors that detect the twisting and flexing of a person's joints.

Then vibrating pads - like those used in mobile phones - help guide the movements.

The device works to provide the athlete with an instant feedback via both vibration and aural senses for technique improvement

Copping added: 'It is also possible to programme in the tennis serve of someone like Nadal or Murray by recording them using motion capture.

'We could also record Tiger Woods’ golf swing and programme that in.

'It means people could train by copying the movement of an elite athlete.'

The device is aptly-named the 'Ghost', based on its ability to copy another person's movements.

It has been shortlisted for the James Dyson Awards, which encourages innovation among young engineers with a £10,000 award.
