i• Hsieh and Peng's 11 WTA doubles titles include one in 2008 (Bali), three in 2009 (Sydney, Rome and Beijing), five in 2013 (Rome, Wimbledon, Cincinnati, Guangzhou and the WTA Championships).i
i• Now two in 2014 (Doha and Indian Wells). They're currently the No.1-ranked doubles team in the world.i
i• Hsieh Su-Wei and Peng Shuai won their 11th WTA doubles title together at the BNP Paribas Open.i

Peng Shuai: "We didn't think about it," Peng said. "Every time we just try to fight every point. Like today, first set we were down, it was really windy, and they're a really good doubles team. Cara Black has lots of experience in doubles, especially, and they were giving us a lot of pressure. So we're happy we won."i


i"We're the No.1 team, and people may know us more now, but we still feel the same as before," Peng said. "All of this is nice because it helps us become more confident and believe in ourselves more on the court, and we're more motivated now too, but nothing has changed. We're still the same people."i


Hsieh Su-Wei: "We've known each other a very long time," Hsieh said. "Sometimes we don't practice together - like at Wimbledon we never practiced together - but every time we go on court together, we try every point. If she misses a shot, I give her support. When I miss, she supports me. It's very important in doubles.i


i"When we get into a final, we don't think, we just try every point. This is the key for us."i

i• Bob and Mike Bryan defeat Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares to win their second straight BNP Paribas Open title. They lifted their first Indian Wells crown last year having fallen in the final twice.i
i• In total, the American twins have won an all-time high 95 ATP World Tour doubles crowns, including 27 at ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments. This was their 144th final outing (95-49).i
i• Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares had knocked out Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka in the semi-finals and were looking to win their team's ninth title.i

Bob Bryan: "It was a great couple weeks for us and for the sport of doubles. We're excited to win our hometown ATP [World Tour] Masters 1000 and play so well against Bruno and Alex, who continue to put up great results."i


Mike Bryan: "The atmosphere tonight was fantastic as it has been all week for the doubles matches. Bruno and Alex have again proven why they deserve to be at the top of the game and tonight we had another high-quality match."i

Women's Singles — Final

i• The BNP Paribas Open crowned a new women’s champion on Sunday, welcoming Flavia Pennetta to its impressive honor roll.i
i• The 32-year-old Italian, contemplated retirement a year ago in Indian Wells.i

i• Pennetta, the tournament’s 18th different women’s champion, is the first Italian to win the title and also the lowest seed to triumph here.i
i• She was just the second player aged 30 and over to reach the women’s final, after Martina Navratilova, who did it twice.i
i• She won her 10th WTA title and her first in 76 events, since her triumph four years ago in Marbella.i

i• She is projected the rise to a No. 12 ranking on Monday.i
i• Pennetta defeated four seeded players en route to the title, including top seed Li Na in the semi-finals.i
i• She also overcame two Americans, wild card Taylor Townsend and No. 17 seed Sloane Stephens, in matches that eclipsed the two-hour mark.i

i• Radwanska, 25, was contesting her first BNP Paribas Open final and was looking to win her ninth Premier-level title and 14th overall.i
i• The Italian will rise from No.21 to No.12 now. Her career-high is No.10, which she set back in 2009.i








i• Pennetta's win over the No.3-ranked Radwanska was also the seventh win of her career over a Top 3 player. The first six of those Top 3 wins came at Zürich in 2008 (No.1 Jelena Jankovic), Cincinnati in 2009 (No.3 Venus Williams), Sydney in 2011 (No.2 Vera Zvonareva), Beijing in 2011 (No.1 Caroline Wozniacki), Dubai earlier this year (No.3 Radwanska) and right here just a few days ago (No.2 Li Na).i
i• Despite the loss, Radwanska had a fantastic fortnight. She reached her first final of the year, in fact her first in almost six months, and she also took out a pair of very in-form players in the last two rounds.i

Flavia Pennetta: "I'm happy. Really happy," Pennetta beamed afterwards. "I think I need a few days to realize this. Right now I'm too calm, I think. I called my dad, and he couldn't breathe. I told him, 'Papa, breathe!'i


i"After so many years and so much work and everything, this is the moment I was waiting for. And it comes when you least expect it. In the beginning of the tournament I never expected to be the champion, or even be in the final or semifinal. I was just here trying to play my best tennis.i


i"For me, this is something I was waiting for a long time."i

i"I perfectly remember after the match with Francesca [Schiavone] last year, the day after I was in the garden running and talking with my physio, Max, almost crying because the feeling and everything was so bad," she said. "And now, after one year, we have the trophy. So he is happy also because we work so much for the injury and everything. So I think without him, without my coach, my family, maybe I was not here. I mean, I quit."i


i"After so many years so much work and everything, this is the moment I always waiting for, no?" said Pennetta. "And it's coming when you doesn't expect and everything, because in the beginning of the week I never expect to be the champion or to be in the final or semifinal. I was here and tried to play my best tennis, but just to realize. So for me it was something I was waiting since long time, and finally I have a good trophy in my hands."i

Agnieszka Radwanska: "The disappointing feeling always comes first, especially when you really, really have ambition to win the tournament," she said. "Of course, still good two weeks. First final here. Big event. And still good result. But it's always disappointing that I really couldn't play my 100% today."i


Radwanska talked about her injury in her post-match presser. "It actually happened a few days ago, but I didn't expect it was going to be much worse today," she said. "I really tried everything I could to push myself and play 100% today, because this is the final, but unfortunately I was in too much pain."i


i"It's just the worst thing for a player to not be able to give 100% in the final of a big event. It was still a good two weeks for me. My first final here, a big event, and still a good result. Of course I will have a lot of treatment and do everything to be ready for Miami."i

i• World No. 2 Novak Djokovic rallied to defeat No. 7 seed Roger Federer to win his first ATP World Tour title of the season. With the win, he moves ahead of Stefan Edberg for 14th place on the Open Era titles list.i
i• The 26-year-old Serbian claimed his 42nd title and 17th at an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament, joining Andre Agassi for third-most titles in the category.i

i• Djokovic also won the BNP Paribas Open in 2008 and '11, joining Jimmy Connors, Michael Chang and Rafael Nadal for second place on the all-time tournament titleholders list.i
i• Federer’s 11-match winning streak came to an end in his bid to earn a second title of the season (Dubai). The 32-year-old Swiss will move from No. 8 to No. 5 in the Emirates ATP Rankings.i

Djokovic: "As I said before the match today, very few points will decide a winner, and that's what happened. Roger is playing in a very high level.... He just played better than he did in the last 13, 14 months. I needed to really be in the top of my game and very concentrated the last moment in order to win. That's what I've done. Very proud of my achievements during this tournament."i

Federer: "It was an interesting end to the match, no doubt. But I think he played well. At the end he made sure he kept the ball in play and I might have made a few too many errors when it really mattered. But I think he made a crucial sort of 20 minutes, half and hour midway through the second set and third set where things could have gone either way. But credit to him for toughening it out and winning that second set and getting the breaker in the third."i
