i• Rafael Nadal dismissed Roger Federer to win his 24th ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title and sixth title of the season.i


i• Nadal and Federer squared off for the 30th time in their FedEx ATP Head2Head series. Nadal now leads 20-10.i

i• By winning the title, Nadal will move to World No. 4 in the Emirates ATP Rankings, overtaking David Ferrer. The shift means Nadal will be seeded fourth at Roland Garros.i


i• Nadal has won 15 matches in a row, capturing three successive titles in Barcelona, Madrid and Rome.i

Rafael Nadal: "If you told me four or five months ago that after eight tournaments I would have won six titles from eight finals, I would say 'you are crazy'. To win three [ATP World Tour] Master 1000 and two [ATP World Tour] 500 tournaments is more than I ever dreamed.i

Roger Federer: “It didn't go how I hoped and I was missing too many easy forehands and crucial points. He does an incredible job returning form the back of the court and it is hard because he covers the court so well. You need to serve accurately. When Rafa is at his best he creates opportunities in rallies and dictates. It was difficult to change.i

i• Not only did Williams keep her win streak alive this week — she has now won 24 matches in a row, the longest win streak of her career.i


i• Williams now goes into Roland Garros as a clear favorite, putting together a perfect 16-0 record on clay this year in capturing all three tournaments she has entered at Charleston, Madrid and Rome.i

i• Serena is 33-1 on clay since the start of last year's clay court season.i


i• Williams now has the third-most WTA clay court titles among active players, this one being her eighth. Only Anabel Medina Garrigues (10) and Venus Williams (9) are above her on that list.i


i• Azarenka playing just her second tournament back after missing almost two months with an ankle injury, she made it all the way to the final, taking out some tough clay courters along the way — Samantha Stosur in the quarterfinals and Sara Errani in the semifinals.i

Serena Williams: "The first three games took about 20 minutes — it wasn't easy, nothing is ever easy," Williams said. "I think the difference today was I took the opportunities when I had them and came up with some really good shots. And this was the best I've moved all week — I feel fit, and hopefully it'll stay like this.i

i"Last year I was feeling excellent on clay but didn't do that great at Roland Garros — this year I'm cautious and I want to work hard and stay focused and win every point I play, and not slack at all."i

Victoria Azarenka: "We had a lot of tight games and the match was closer than the score, but Serena played a very good match and was better in the important moments," Azarenka said. "She was just better than me today. She's playing incredible tennis, maybe she's at her best level for the last year and a half or so.i

i"After the trophy ceremony we were just talking about the match and wishing each other luck for the French Open, and that we'll see each other in Paris, and hopefully see each other in another final."i

i• Peng Shuai and Hsieh Su-Wei rekindled the form that saw them win three Premier-level doubles titles together in 2009, beating the No.1 team in the world to win the Internazionali BNL d'Italia.i


i• Hsieh and Peng now have five WTA doubles titles as a team and even more individually — Hsieh now has 10, Peng eight. Peng has three doubles titles in Rome, having won here in 2011 with Zheng Jie.i


i• The unseeded win their first WTA doubles title since a magical 2009 season that saw them win three Premier-level doubles titles together.i


i• Hsieh and Peng were on everyone's radar — they had won four titles together before, a smaller one at Bali in 2008 and three big ones at Sydney, Rome and Beijing in 2009.i


i• On the road to the final they took out No.4 seeds Liezel Huber and María José Martínez Sánchez and No.2 seeds Nadia Petrova and Katarina Srebotnik.i


i• They had beaten Errani and Vinci before — just a few months ago at the Australian Open, actually — and they pulled it out again, coming back from a set down to take out the No.1 seeds, 46 63 10-8.i

Peng Shuai: "We were a little bit tight at the beginning of the match," Peng said. "We played some really close matches with them before and knew they were a really good team. Also this time was in Italy and it's their home country. And this was our first time playing on the center court this week, and it is really different from the outside courts. So we missed a couple of shots at the start of the match.i


i"We just tried to fight after we lost the first set. After we won the second set the tie-break went really fast and we weren't thinking too much. When we got to 8-3 we knew we just needed a few more points. They were fighting too, coming back to 8-7, but we fought for every point and got the win."i

Hsieh Su-Wei: "Even though the crowd wasn't really for us, they were very loud out there and we really enjoyed the atmosphere," Hsieh added. "It's more exciting to play in front of such an enthusiastic crowd."i


i"I really like Rome," Peng said. "There's a lot of history here. Usually I can't go anywhere during the day but after dinner I like to walk around a little bit. To me there are still a lot of things to discover. And that's not all — the crowd is great, whether they're for you or not, and I also love the food."i


i"Maybe they can make the tournament two weeks so we can enjoy the city more," Hsieh joked."i
