DRAW DONE FOR SHANGHAI ROLEX MASTERS
OCTOBER 10TH, 2015 TOURNAMENT
DRAW DONE FOR SHANGHAI ROLEX MASTERS
The 2015 Shanghai Rolex Masters is just a day away from the action starting and the top 20 players in the world are all here and ready to put on a fantastic tennis party.

Yes, all the fan favorites are in the house from world No. 1 and two-time champion Novak Djokovic, No. 2 and defending champion Roger Federer, and two-time champion and No. 3 Andy Murray. The five other top 10 players – No. 4 Stan Wawrinka, No. 5 Tomas Berdych, No. 6 Kei Nishikori, No. 7 David Ferrer, and No. 8 Rafael Nadal — will all be in the hunt for their maiden Shanghai Rolex Masters title.

The official draw ceremony took place at The Rolex Boutique located on Shanghai’s famed The Bund on Saturday morning. The Top 8 seeds in the 64-player draw receive first round byes.

Rolex ambassador and tennis great Rod Laver, the only man to win the calendar Grand Slam twice, was a guest at the official draw. Also on hand was another Rolex ambassador and No. 9 Milos Raonic as well as Chinese wildcard recipient Wu Di.

The top quarter of the draw finds Djokovic, Murray, Berdych and Ferrer as the heavyweight names.

Djokovic’s scenario offers a potential quarterfinal opponent in Ferrer but before that a second round encounter will see him play the winner of Martin Klizan and Chinese wildcard recipient Zhang Ze. From there, Djokovic will likely see Feliciano Lopez or Dominic Thiem in the third round.

Ferrer has a more difficult passage to the quarters with Bernard Tomic or Fernando Verdasco on tap for the second round, followed by No. 11 Richard Gasquet, Gilles Muller or Vasek Pospisil as possible third round foes.

There are a number of pitfalls between Murray and Berdych advancing to the quarterfinals, including No. 13 John Isner as a third round option for Murray, and No. 10 Gilles Simon, last year’s finalist, for Berdych. Murray’s second round competition will be the winner of the Andreas Seppi – Steve Johnson match, while Berdych will likely take on Jack Sock, who plays a qualifier, in his first match.

The bottom half of the top quarter features Federer as well as Wawrinka, Nishikori and Nadal.

Federer, who owns a record 17-time Grand Slam titles, could be staring at a quarterfinal outing against Nishikori with fellow Swiss Wawrinka or longtime rival Nadal as most likely candidates for the semifinals.

“I think it you love the game, and you enjoy it, there’s no end,” said Laver, of the 34-year-old Federer still at the top of the game. “I almost feel like he’s playing better tennis than he did a couple of years ago.”

In the bottom quarter of the draw there’s a lot of dangerous floaters between Federer and Nishikori making safe passage to the quarterfinals. Nishikori has young talent Nick Kyrgios as a likelihood in the second round with No. 12 Kevin Anderson or Fabio Fognini in the third round. It looks as if Sam Querry will be Federer’s first opponent at this year’s tournament with No. 16 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga coming up next.

Sizing up the Wawrinka and Nadal quarter it appears Nadal has some tall competition in his path. The Spaniard could face 6-foot-11 Ivo Karlovic as a second round opponent with Raonic standing at 6-foot-5, a possibility in the third round. Wawrinka’s worry will likely arrive in the third round with No. 14 Marin Cilic, the 2014 U.S. Open champion, while young talents Borna Coric or Aleksandr Dolgopolov are also in that area.

“I have a difficult match ahead of me,” said Raonic, who’ll face Thomaz Bellucci in the first round. “All of the top players are here. It’s going to be a difficult week, but an enjoyable week at that.”

No matter how the draw winds down to the finals this year there is one guarantee: Shanghai fans are in for another fantastic year of tennis at the Qizhong Tennis Cente
