I don't think we saw the same match. Fed return were so defensive, he tried sometimes to move on the forehand, but actually rarely tried to push a bit with the backhand. But considering he often saw Nadal making the point out from his poor returns, he should have tried more to force his returns. He probably should have also tried much more the cross forehand inside-out to approach the net, as Nadal is more vulnerable on the forehand than on the backhand when the ball is hit pretty heavely.
