i• Novak Djokovic won his first title in Monte-Carlo, defeating eight-time reigning champion Rafael Nadal to snap the Spaniard’s 46-match win streak at the tournament.i
i• The Serbian became the first player to win three clay-court finals against Nadal.i
i• Djokovic collected his 37th tour-level trophy and 14th ATP World Tour Masters 1000 crown.i
i• Prior to his loss, Nadal had won 81 straight matches on clay in the month of April.i
i• Julien Benneteau and Nenad Zimonjic saved seven match points to triumph on their team debut over two-time defending titlists Bob and Mike Bryan.i
i• The rain-interrupted doubles final finished at 9:32pm local time.i


Novak Djokovic: “I think anybody who saw my expression in the end saw that it was a very emotional win for the reasons [of] living here and what I've been through in the last two weeks. It's a very joyful moment for me. I wanted that trophy badly all my life, especially in the last six, seven years that I've been spending my time and living here between the tournaments in Monaco. This is a great confidence boost before the rest of the clay-court season.”i


On his game plan against Nadal: “I knew after yesterday's match that I had a feeling that I had a big chance to win against Rafa if I was on the top of my game. The first six, seven games, eight games, were unbelievable. It's the best that I can play on clay. It's the only way you can win against Rafa.”i


Rafael Nadal: “It is not a tragedy. I lost after eight years without losing here. Today, he was better than me… He's a fantastic player. If you are not at 100 per cent, [it] is very difficult to win against these kinds of players. His game is very complete. To win, I have to play my best and I have to bring him to the limit.”i

Julien Benneteau: “We were a little bit lucky of course. When you save seven match points, you need a little bit of luck. But we played very well on those points. We still believed in ourselves until the end and it paid off.”i


Nenad Zimonjic: “It was unbelievable. They started unbelievable [after the rain break], without missing any shots. Julien had to hit an ace on the second serve at 5-4 and also had an unbelievable return of the first serve to save another match point. It was just amazing to come up as the winners in our first tournament together. They are such champions. We knew they were going to come out strong. They never give up. We really had to play unbelievable to win at the end.”i
