Women's Singles — Final

i• Simona Halep winning her first WTA title at Nürnberg last week and already her second at 's-Hertogenbosch this week on completely opposite surfaces.i
i• Nürnberg last week was on slow red clay, while 's-Hertogenbosch this week was on slick grass.i
i• Halep is the fifth Romanian ever to win multiple WTA titles in their career, after Virginia Ruzici (who won seven), Irina Spirlea (four), Ruxandra Dragomir-Ilie (four) and Alexandra Dulgheru (two).i
i• Flipkens still had a great week, reaching her second WTA final — she is now an even 1-1 in those.i

Simona Halep: "It's incredible, because I played really well on grass after a week on clay," Halep said. "Today I played well. I was a little bit nervous at the start but I just tried to fight for every point. She's playing a very difficult game for me, slicing a lot, but I played every point and just kept going, and I won in the end.i


i"I'm really happy. I want to enjoy this evening. It's a special moment for me."i


i"I didn't expect this," the Romanian said. "I played really well in Rome, but I lost first round at the French Open. But that's tennis. I really want to keep enjoying and improving my game now."i

Kirsten Flipkens: "It was really not easy to play with the wind today — it's especially difficult for me to play in with my serve," Flipkens said. "But Simona's in the shape of her life. She won last week on clay, and this week on grass. It looks like it doesn't even matter to her what surface she's playing on at the moment — she's a little bit in seventh heaven for the moment and she played a great match against me today.i


i"I'm still really happy with my week, though. In the first match I was a set down against Francesca and came back to win. And I would have been fine before this week if I knew I would play the finals."i

i• Mahut won 46 of his 47 service games during his run to the trophy.i
i• Stanislas Wawrinka was contesting his first tour-level final on grass.i

Nicolas Mahut: "It's amazing. I cannot believe I won today. I didn't know if I was going to play again when I had some bad times with my knee. All my team helped me a lot. We worked hard and here I am with the trophy. It's a good story."i

On the match: "Emotionally, the last game was difficult, but I really served great. We played five points and I made four first serves, which helped a lot. Today was really tough to play in the conditions. It was rainy and cold, windy. I won my serve at 3-3 [in the first set], then I broke him. That for me, was the key to the match."i

Stanislas Wawrinka: "First of all, I want to congratulate Nico and his team. He has always been playing well on grass and he deserves this title. This year, I go to Wimbledon with more practice and matches under my belt. As always I’m happy and looking forward to going to Wimbledon. Winning matches here gives me a lot of confidence going into Wimbledon. I had a great week here and I’m looking forward to playing Lleyton [Hewitt] on Monday. It will be a big match for both of us."i

Max Mirnyi: "It's always rewarding to win a title. We've put in a lot of work off the court. When moments like that come, it's nothing but a joyful feeling. It's nice to get it ahead of our biggest tournament and we're heading to the All England Club to try and produce that match in and match out."i
