RESULTS — Day Eight MONDAY, 11 NOVEMBER, 2013

Singles — Final
i[2] N Djokovic (SRB) d. [1] R Nadal (ESP) 63 64

i Novak Djokovic successfully defends the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals title with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over top seed Rafael Nadal in the fifth No. 1 versus No. 2 final in the 44-year history of the season finale.i
i Djokovic, who also won the season finale crown in 2008, is the seventh player in the history of the tournament to win at least three titles.i

i Djokovic extends his winning streak to 22 matches, undefeated since his loss to Nadal in the US Open final. He has a 72-9 match record (15-0 indoors) going into this weekend's Davis Cup final in Belgrade vs. Czech Republic.i
i Djokovic's seven titles this season is the second-most of his career (10 in 2011).i

i Nadal, also a runner-up at The O2 in 2010, had been attempting to become the third Spaniard to capture the title. He drops to a 10-4 record in finals this year.i
i Nadal completes his season with a 75-7 match record, including three major championships and five ATP World Tour Masters 1000 crowns. He clinched year-end No. 1 in the Emirates ATP Rankings for the third time (also 2008 and 2010) on Wednesday with his second round robin win of the week.i

Novak Djokovic: “We push each other to the limit [and] we make each other better. We make each other work harder on our games, especially when we play against each other. It's always a huge challenge.”i

i“This can serve as a great platform for 2014 season. I'm extra motivated and inspired to work and get myself, first of all, rested and recovered in the off season, and then work on my game and get ready for Australian Open.”i

Rafael Nadal: “One thing that made the difference in today's match was the serve. I didn't serve well, he served well. On this kind of court, the first shot is very important and he hit that first shot much better than me.”i

i“Is very special what happened this year. For me, the emotions of this year after a tough year for all of us have been fantastic. And certainly is the day to say congratulations and thanks to all the people who were behind me supporting me, let me work in the days that I was down.”i

Doubles — Final
i[6] D Marrero (ESP)/F Verdasco (ESP) d. [1] B Bryan (USA)/M Bryan (USA) 75 67(3) [10-7]i

i In the doubles final, No. 6 seeded Spaniards David Marrero and Fernando Verdasco defeat World No. 1 and three-time season finale champions Bob and Mike Bryan 7-5, 6-7(3), 10-7 in their first year-end championship.i

i Marrero and Verdasco are the second straight Spanish team to win the season finale title after Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez last year and third overall (Juan Gisbert-Manuel Orantes in 1975).i

Fernando Verdasco: “It was a special victory… You don't win a tournament like this every day. I am really going to try to enjoy it. I think it's the best way to go on holidays. Then try to work hard for next season to be competitive and try to fight for the big tournaments.”i

Bob Bryan: “Got to give them credit. They really stepped up. They might have been due for a win against us. We've been playing against Fernando for over 10 years and never lost to him. I knew he was bound to get us one of these times. Unfortunately it had to be here at The O2. But I'm happy for them. They're going to be right in the mix of it next year as a top four team.”i

Mike Bryan: “It's going to be tough to better this year – 11 titles: we won five Masters [1000s] and three [Grand] Slam. We'll take a year like this every year. We can improve things. We're always finding new things to work on. We like to keep raising our level as we get older. We'll have the 100 title mark on the horizon. We'd love to shoot that down next year."i
