i• Juan Martin del Potro won the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships title for the first time. He had finished runner-up in 2008 (l. to Berdych).i
i• Del Potro moves up to fifth position in the Emirates ATP Race To London with five spots left up for grabs at the eight-player Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, to be held at The O2 in London from 4-11 November.i

i• It was the 16th title of del Potro's career and his third ATP World Tour 500 tournament trophy of the season (also Rotterdam and Washington).i

i• Raonic saw his eight-match winning streak come to an end with his second straight runner-up finish in Tokyo (l. to Nishikori in 2012 final).i
i• After this week’s final run, Raonic has risen to No. 10 in Emirates ATP Race To London.i

Juan Martin del Potro: "I played really well in the last two games of the match, returning all of his first serves. It was a fantastic week for me as I played better and better with each match."i

On returning Raonic’s serve: "You have to be focused and wait for the chance. I took his serve in the last game to break. In the tie-break, he hit a double fault in the most important part of the match and then my chance came, which I knew I had to take.i


i"I did what I could to win. When he serves well and hits aces, it means I have to be aggressive on serve. I threw in drop shots and came to the net to mix up my game."i

Milos Raonic: “There is not really much to be down about. I created opportunities and barring a double fault and a few points I could not have done much better.i


i"I think I am doing a lot of things better week in, week out. I can play a good level, but I just need to improve on a consistent basis. There is work to be done."i

i• Rohan Bopanna and Edouard Roger-Vasselin won their first ATP World Tour team title.i
i• The pair had saved one match point against Andre Begemann and Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the quarter-finals.i

Rohan Bopanna: "The strategy worked well today. We played as a team today. Edouard is very solid on return and puts pressure on the serve, which gives me the freedom to play my game.i


i"We started playing together after Wimbledon, so we knew that the battle to qualify [for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals] in London would be hard. We would have to do well at the big tournaments and [ATP World Tour Masters 1000 events] in Shanghai and Paris. We will take the confidence we have from here."i

Edouard Roger-Vasselin: "Almost everything worked well and we are very happy. We were close to losing in our first match [against Juan Monaco and Horacio Zeballos] and saved one match point in our quarter-final [against Andre Begemann and Martin Emmrich]."i
