10burning questions with Bob and Mike Bryan
Q : What's the best aspect of being a professional tennis player ?
Bob: Just going to so many nice players, playing in the sun, and trying to achieve your goals. And the money is not bad either. You also meet a lot of nice people. It's so much better than being behind a desk.
Mike: Basically it's the same thing. It's fun to do what you love, and all the players love tennis. It beats most day jobs. You travel to the nicest resorts in the world, chasing the sun, and we start off the year in Australia, and you can't beat that.
Q: What is your favourite holiday spot?
Bob: Well, I've liked Hawai in the past, but we just went down to Thailand two weeks ago, and we though that was gorgeous. Lots of stuff to do. It's definitely a place where hopefully we'll be spending many December. That's the hot spot for us now.
Mike: Well, you said Hawai, and I like Hawai too. We've been there in December the last six years. We go there to train a little and to spend vacation just before the Aussie Open. We love it there.
Q: What would you have done had you not been a tennis player?
Bob: Probably a rock star. We love music, and it would be a fun way to spend your life, just playing on stages around the world… There is no winning, no losing. Or rather there is one, there is just winning!
Mike: Actually you took my answer. I want to be a rock star too. Definitely I want to start a band, and make it in the music industry.
Q: What do you listen to on your iPod?
Bob: I listen to John Mayer, Room five, Dave Mathews… Il like those bands, you know. The male bands where the music actually played is written by the artist, and not just produced in the studios. It's just acoustic feel.
Mike: Right now I'm listening to Jason Mraz, and Kings of Leon. I love Jason Mraz. I've seen him in concert many times, and he came to watch us at Wimbledon one year.
Q: What's your all time favourite movie?
Bob: Gladiator. It had a little bit of history, a little bit of drama, great fight scenes. Sometimes you feel like a gladiator on the court.
Mike: I like The Matrix. It was an awesome trilogy, the special effects were pretty cool, and I like Keanu Reeves.
Q: Who are your favourite actor and actress?
Bob: I'm gonna go with Russel Crowe. And the actress is tough. I will say Nathalie Portman. She impressed me in Black Swan.
Mike: I just saw The Fighter yesterday, so I'm gonna say Christian Bale, he was unbelievable. And I'm gonna throw out Rachel McAdams. I liked her in the Notebook.
Q: What's the last book you read?
Bob: I don't read a lot. When I have time I usually get behind the piano and play. SO I would say the Da Vinci Code, but it's been a while.
Mike: I read a lot of books, but I will say the Lost Symbol. It's by Dan Brown too.
Q: What's your idea of a fun Saturday evening?
Bob: Nice dinner maybe at Nobu, then catch a movie, then come back to the music studio late, and jam until sun up.
Mike: I'd say have a barbecue at the house with friends, then go see a Lakers game, and after that go see a concert.
Q: The thing you don't like about your brother.
Bob: I like everything this week. And then we'll readdress that after the tournament.
Mike: Yeah, I like Bob. We're not gonna start any controversies right now. I could say a few things, but off the record (laughter).
Q: What are the qualities you like most in a person?
Bob: I like independence, ambition, and someone with a great heart.
Mike: Someone with a good sense of humour, an honest person, a real person, and someone who's really supportive.
