Rafael Nadal will fly out to Montreal on Wednesday for next week’s
Rogers Cup, an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tennis tournament where he is the defending champion. According to a statement on his official web site, Nadal intends to play at the back-to-back Masters 1000 tournaments in Montreal and Cincinnati before heading to Flushing Meadows for a chance to complete a career Grand Slam at the US Open. Nadal won his second
Rogers Cup title last year when the tournament was held in Toronto, and reached the semi-finals at Cincinnati and the US Open.
"There is no particular objective at present," Tony Nadal said on rafaelnadal.com. “The challenge is to get back into form and to be in good shape for the US Open.”
The 23-year-old Spaniard has been sidelined for the past two months due to tendonitis in both knees, and made his last appearance on 31 May in a fourth-round loss to Swede
Robin Soderling at Roland Garros. After pulling out of
Wimbledon, he lost both his title and the World No. 1 ranking to Swiss
Roger Federer.
